Margherita Chinchio’s work begins with source-images of well-known jewelry forms and drops you off in an unfamiliar, hyperchromatic landscape that repeats and repeats and repeats itself. There is not a moment of translation or appropriation so much as there is a digital transmutation of forms that breaks down each element and arrives in a pleasant fever dream of pattern and color.  In Scroll Shimmer – much like Chinchio’s multi-step process of digital collage and image splicing – we are taken along for the ride, unsure of where we’re going, how we’re getting there, or where we came from. But, by damn, we will enjoy the journey.

Bio –

Margherita Chinchio, she/her.
Born in Trieste (Italy) and now based in Milan.
I hold a BA from the Jewellery-Linking Bodies Department at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, in Amsterdam, and a BA in Costume and Set Design from Accademia di Belle Arti, in Venice. To me adornments represent the ideal intersection between disciplines and cultural impulses, a wild playground where both formal and technical research are fostered richly.

My research has a multilayered, playful but technical approach, which is rooted in combining digital techniques to analogical ones, and graphic shapes to tactile surfaces. Playing with scale and mixing elements coming from theatre, graphic and fashion is a recurrent subject of interest in my practice too.
